Construction Review and Inspections Operations Manager

The City of Holmes Beach is actively seeking a Construction Review and Inspections Operations Manager, licensed by the DBPR under F.S. Chapter 468 as a Standard Plans Examiner with an endorsement in Building, and at least one other category in Mechanical, Plumbing or Electrical. Licensure as a Building Code Administrator or the ability to obtain same within 180 days of employment is preferred. The position requires excellent customer service skills, and a combination of education and experience demonstrating a thorough knowledge of building construction and construction trade practices.

The position reports directly to the Building Official. The position is a senior position with the potential for advancement to Deputy Building Official.

The Construction Review and Inspections Operation Manager:
• Responsible for the enforcement of the Florida Building Code(s), FEMA regulations and City Ordinances
• Oversees and performs review of building plans, calculations and specifications for proposed structures; establishes estimated values of proposed construction
• Researches codes for unusual and/or unique installations to ensure compliance
• Reviews construction plans and engineering calculations for structural, mechanical and architectural components to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and recommends methods of compliance to meet the intent of each related item
• Inspects construction projects and applicable trade work to ensure compliance with approved plans and building, construction, and fire codes
• Resolves interpretation issues for inspections of buildings (residential and commercial) under construction, and existing buildings for compliance, within the parameters of the Florida Building Code, FEMA Guidelines and City Ordinances
• Works with permitting staff to assure the timely flow of permits from application through granting of such
• Works with other City departments as required in coordinating plan approval and/or building code related issues.
