Bob Johnson was elected in November 2014 as Mayor for Holmes Beach for a two-year term expiring November 2016. In 2016, he was re-elected to serve an additional two-year term through November 2018.
Mayor Johnson served 21 years as a commissioned officer in the US Army which included: five tours of duty (two in Vietnam) as a troop commander with all three of our Airborne units; key logistics and facilities operations support management assignments at Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, IL, and at the Army Intelligence School. Overseas assignments included Indonesia in the mid 70's and Egypt in early 80's, as a Logistics Advisory Team Leader to support modernization of armed forces within those countries.
After retiring from the Army in 1985, Mayor Johnson joined with a small group who, in the early days of information technology (IT), saw and successfully pursued the business opportunity of building and delivering integrated computer solutions to help organizations do things better, faster, and cheaper through automating and implementing new business practices. His civilian career moved him from developing and managing such projects for major companies such as Arthur Anderson and Lockheed, to working with start-ups both in the US and Europe, helping them grow into profitable and viable companies. Mayor Johnson's official retirement was in 2008.
Mayor Johnson served on the Island Congestion Committee in 2013 and as Chair of the Holmes Beach Charter Review Commission in 2014. He and his wife Denise have been a part of Anna Maria Island and Holmes Beach since their arrival on AMI as full-time residents in 1994. They are active supporters of the Anna Maria Island Community Center, Island Branch Library, Women's Resource Center, First Step, and PACE for Girls.
Mayor Johnson and Denise have four children and seven grandchildren who live in Denver CO, Frederick MD, Houston TX, and Barcelona, Spain.
